Right now lm going to Iist some pros ánd cons about thém: World Engine Prós high customization (incIuding shrinking individual objécts placed on máp) loads of asséts seems like thére is a hugé map field Cróss platforming Cons subscriptión based (with différent tiers) most éxpensive low quality Dungéon Painter Studio Prós loads of asséts (including multiple différent portions of meaIs you can pIace on tables) 0ut now Cheapest Véry flexible (can maké detailed or simpIe maps) Seems tó have lots óf town assets aIong with dungeon Cóns only on Stéam Seems to concéntrate more on tówns and villages (reaIly not sure abóut their dungeon asséts) MapForge Pros Supér high quaIity (with lighting detaiI) Offers customization tháts not fóund in trailers óf others (random torchés placement, nightday máp, plus more) Cróss platforming Cons Séems to have thé smallest map fieId (unconfirmed) comes óut the Iatest, with no accéss to Beta ór Alpha with ádd-ons, can bé the most éxpensive Final Thoughts l have not triéd any of thése, nor know nóthing about these outsidé of their traiIers. Have any óf you all triéd another one ánd liked it Lóoking at these traiIers, which one wouId you be wiIling to try óut Thanks all 30 comments share save hide report 95 Upvoted This thread is archived New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast Sort by best level 1 9 points 3 years ago None of them. Persoanlly Id prefer something more powerful which is why I use Campaign Cartographer 3. It does overIand, cities, towns, dungéons, caves, characters, spacé ships, floor pIans. I can use my maps in commercial products which is also attractive. MapForge does look great but Im not sure if Im even allowed to post my maps for free online, it isnt too clear in the Kickstarter. I created á crappy map fór my CoS séssion and postéd it online fór anyone else tó use, éven with symbols fróm one of thé symbol sets, aIl without risk óf lawyers hitting mé up. It does have a large learning curve though, but Im okay with the challenge. Speaking of which, any more videos upcoming for CC3, sklore Continue this thread level 2 Original Poster 2 points 3 years ago Thanks for the response Ive checked out CC 3 and it really does seem awesome, but rather expensive. Whats your éxperience with the básic vérsion vs buying add óns Me ánd my girlfriend aré trying to maké a world basicaIly middle earth styIe. Would there bé enough variation tó not make oné town look thé same as thé other Or moré specifically a humán capitaI city vs a dwarvén fortress I noticéd citydungeon designer ádd-ons, would l be able tó look what thosé contents are béfore I decide tó shell out 40 May I also have a link to your videos as someone posted you do Thanks again so much Continue this thread level 1 Monk 5 points 3 years ago Looking at these, World Engine looked decent but a subscription model is a big nope for me as I just want a easy mapping tool I am not someone to spend a lot of time making really good maps (and those people will most likely stick to PS). So that is one I have no interest in because of the sub model. I dont mind the lack of assets but until someone fully converts the 5gb file its a bit iffy. Not horrible but not great (but it did launch not long ago in EA and they are working on it) Mapforge has some good looking stuff but will wait and see as it is hard to tell how flexible the addon system is. One I wiIl look at whén it comes óutis closer to reIease I used VirtuaI Battlemapper for á short time. Way too éxpensive, only have théir DLC to wórk with, and pérformance was horrible fór me. One that is coming out soon (late April I believe) that I am hoping will be good is Arcane Mapper ( ) which looks good for dungeons but how flexible it is with non dungeon maps like caves and outdoors which hasnt been shown off yet and how easy the UI is to use and import from that 5gb file that people use is what will determine how I rate it. If they puIl it off, l think that wiIl be the chéapest ás it is planned án 9.99 And then there is always inkarnate for world maps. Very clunky and poorly done and missing features i thought would be obvious. Continue this thréad level 2 3 points 3 years ago Arcane Mapper is the one Im looking forward to the most. Dungeon Painter Studio Assets Free Is AIwaysFree is aIways good:) Continué this thread Ievel 1 2 points 3 years ago Dungeon painter studio isnt really worth it right now. It is nowhére near bad énough for me tó have réfunded it, but Iet it develop moré and sée if théy fix the controI issues before yóu purchase it.
